BLOK Welsh Hotel Spa in South Wales
An Intimate Dining Experience Shaped by Warmth and Character
A restaurant within a hotel has the opportunity to become much more than somewhere to dine. With the right atmosphere, it can become a destination of its own.
At Welsh Hotel Spa in South Wales, Dawnvale Group transformed an under-used restaurant into BLOK, an intimate and atmospheric dining destination designed around warmth, texture and layered sophistication.
At the heart of the transformation is BLOK’s private dining room, conceived as an exclusive setting for elevated dinner parties while retaining the flexibility to accommodate restaurant overflow during busier periods.
The result is a space that can shift naturally between intimacy and activity.
Rich tones, tactile surfaces and carefully considered lighting create an enveloping atmosphere, while the furniture becomes part of the character of the room rather than simply a functional addition.
Within this setting, the Essex Armchair and Essex Counter Stool by Sentta introduce a cosmopolitan design language inspired by New York.
Handcrafted in ash wood, finished in brown pewter and upholstered in cotton velvet, the Essex pieces bring together the warmth of timber and the softness of upholstery, complementing the restaurant’s layered material palette.
Around the dining tables, the Essex Armchair combines an elegant upholstered presence with the definition of its ash wood structure. Its proportions make it particularly suited to sophisticated restaurant and hospitality interiors, where seating must contribute to the visual identity of a space while providing the comfort expected from a longer dining experience.
At counter height, the Essex Counter Stool carries the same design language into a different setting. The relationship between the two pieces creates continuity across the interior, allowing different areas of BLOK to perform their own functions while remaining visually connected.
This consistency is especially valuable when specifying luxury restaurant furniture for hospitality projects. Dining areas, private rooms and counter settings may require different seating typologies, but a shared design language can help them feel part of one complete experience.
For BLOK, Essex becomes part of that connection.
Its New York-inspired character sits naturally within Dawnvale’s atmospheric interior, while the combination of ash wood, brown pewter finish and cotton velvet adds another layer of material richness to the restaurant.
The project also demonstrates how an existing hospitality space can be reconsidered rather than simply replaced.
By transforming an under-used restaurant into a more intimate dining destination, Dawnvale has created an environment capable of serving different moments: private dinner parties, quieter gatherings and additional restaurant capacity when required.
Behind the project, Dawnvale Group brings extensive experience in restaurant design and fit-out. Working alongside prominent designers and operators across the UK, the company creates bars and restaurants for the hotel and leisure sector, bringing together interior design, specialist manufacturing and fit-out expertise.
Sentta’s role within BLOK is expressed through furniture: pieces selected to complement the interior while contributing their own material and design identity.
And the story of Essex extends beyond these two pieces.
The Essex Collection includes a sofa, lounge chair, armchair, counter stool, bar stool and daybed, giving architects and interior designers the possibility to carry the same design language across restaurants, hotel lounges, suites, bars, private residences and other sophisticated contract environments.
At BLOK, that language finds its place in a dining room designed around atmosphere.
A private table waiting for guests. Velvet catching the low light. Warm timber against deeper architectural tones. A restaurant that can become intimate when the occasion asks for it and expand naturally when the evening becomes busier.
Welsh hospitality with a cosmopolitan edge. An overlooked space given new purpose. Luxury restaurant furniture becoming part of the experience rather than simply part of the room.
