Dunkeld House Hotel in Scotland

A Countryside Retreat Where Nature and Contemporary Comfort Meet

Surrounded by nature, hospitality takes on a quieter rhythm.

Set within 280 acres of unspoiled Perthshire countryside, Dunkeld House Hotel offers a peaceful Scottish retreat where guests can step away from the everyday and experience a destination shaped by its natural surroundings.

Alongside its scenic setting, the hotel features an outdoor activity centre and a luxury health club, bringing together two different ways of experiencing the landscape: adventure and relaxation.

It is this balance that defines the character of Dunkeld House.

A place to explore, but also to slow down.

Within the hotel’s refined interiors, the Essex Lounge Chair by Sentta introduces a sophisticated contrast to the surrounding countryside.

Designed by Javier Gomez, Essex takes its inspiration from the cosmopolitan character of New York. Its confident proportions and upholstered presence bring an urban design language into the tranquil setting of Perthshire without competing with the identity of the hotel.

For this project, the Essex Armchair is handcrafted in ash wood, finished in brown pewter and upholstered in cotton velvet.

The combination creates a warm and tactile seating experience, bringing together natural timber, rich upholstery and contemporary form.

Against the peaceful character of Dunkeld House Hotel, that contrast becomes part of the appeal.

Nature outside.

Contemporary comfort within.

The Essex Armchair creates an inviting place for guests to pause after exploring the surrounding landscape, settle into the quieter moments of their stay or simply enjoy the atmosphere of the hotel’s interior spaces.

This relationship between furniture and setting is particularly important when specifying luxury hotel furniture in Scotland, where extraordinary landscapes and characterful properties often form an essential part of the guest experience.

The interior needs its own identity while remaining connected to the destination around it.

Furniture helps establish that balance.

Comfort creates a sense of retreat. Materials introduce warmth. Distinctive silhouettes give spaces character without overwhelming their surroundings.

At Dunkeld House Hotel, Essex brings these qualities together through a design that feels sophisticated yet inviting.

The project was carried out in collaboration with Protocol Office, a contract furniture specialist with more than 30 years of experience.

Working closely with interior design teams, Protocol Office helps integrate furniture naturally into the wider design concept, considering both contemporary trends and the evolving requirements of interior environments.

The wider Essex Collection extends the same design language across a sofa, lounge chair, armchair, counter stool, bar stool and daybed.

Its range of typologies allows designers to create continuity between different hospitality environments while adapting the seating experience to the function of each space.

For hotels, this versatility is particularly relevant.

Guest experiences move between moments of activity and rest, private and shared spaces, formal and informal settings. Furniture can connect these different environments through a common design language while allowing each area to retain its own atmosphere.

At Dunkeld House Hotel, the Essex Armchair becomes part of an experience built around exactly that kind of contrast.

The scale of the Perthshire landscape meets the intimacy of the interior.

Outdoor adventure gives way to moments of rest.

And the cosmopolitan character of Essex finds a new context surrounded by the Scottish countryside.

Scottish nature without interruption. Contemporary comfort within. A countryside retreat designed around the freedom to explore and the pleasure of slowing down.
