Hotel Indigo Torquay on the English Riviera

Boutique Hospitality Shaped by Coastal Character and Contemporary Comfort

On the English Riviera, hospitality comes with a view.

Perfectly positioned along the coastline of South Devon, Hotel Indigo Torquay offers a stylish waterfront retreat in one of the region’s most vibrant seaside towns.

Here, boutique hospitality is closely connected to its surroundings.

Coastal views and the character of Torquay become part of the experience, creating a hotel where contemporary design, comfort and a strong sense of place come together.

Within this refined setting, the Essex Lounge Chair by Sentta introduces a distinctly cosmopolitan perspective.

Designed by Javier Gomez and inspired by New York, Essex brings an urban design language to the relaxed coastal character of the English Riviera.

It is an unexpected contrast, but one that gives the interior another layer of personality.

For the project, the Essex Lounge Chair is handcrafted in ash wood, finished in brown pewter and upholstered in cotton velvet.

Its generous upholstered form creates an inviting place to settle in, while its confident silhouette gives the surrounding space a contemporary identity.

The combination of wood and upholstery introduces warmth and tactility, complementing the sense of comfort expected from a boutique waterfront hotel.

Against the coastal setting of Hotel Indigo Torquay, Essex demonstrates how furniture can respond to a destination without needing to interpret it literally.

There are no obvious references to the sea. Instead, the connection comes through atmosphere.

The landscape outside provides openness and light. The furniture inside creates intimacy and comfort.

This balance is particularly important when selecting boutique hotel furniture in the UK, where distinctive properties increasingly combine a strong local identity with contemporary international design.

Furniture becomes part of establishing that character.

A lounge chair can transform an open hospitality environment into a more intimate place to pause. Its materials influence the warmth of the room, its proportions shape the experience of comfort, and its silhouette contributes to the visual identity guests associate with the hotel.

At Hotel Indigo Torquay, the Essex Lounge Chair brings these elements together through a design that feels refined yet relaxed.

The project was developed in collaboration with PS Interiors International, a provider of European contract furniture for the global market.

With experience across hospitality, residential, marine and airport environments, PS Interiors International delivers tailored furniture solutions responding to the design and functional requirements of different contract projects.

The wider Essex Collection extends the same cosmopolitan design language across a sofa, lounge chair, armchair, counter stool, bar stool and daybed.

This range allows designers to introduce continuity across different hospitality environments while selecting the seating typology most appropriate for each space.

For boutique hotels, that flexibility is particularly valuable.

The guest experience extends beyond the bedroom into lounges, restaurants, bars and other shared spaces. Each has a different function, yet together they contribute to the identity of the hotel.

A consistent furniture language can connect those environments without making them feel uniform.

At Hotel Indigo Torquay, Essex becomes part of an experience shaped by exactly this relationship between identity and contrast.

English Riviera outside. New York inspiration within. Coastal relaxation meets cosmopolitan design in a hotel created around experiencing Torquay from a contemporary perspective.

Coastal character without cliché. Cosmopolitan design without formality. Boutique hospitality shaped around the pleasure of slowing down by the sea.
