The Coal Shed Restaurant in Brighton
Contemporary Dining Shaped Around Fire, Flavour and Atmosphere
Some restaurants are defined as much by how they cook as by what they serve.
Located in the heart of Brighton’s town centre, The Coal Shed Brighton celebrates the elemental character of cooking over coal, creating a dining experience centred around live fire, seasonal local produce, exceptional wines and expertly crafted cocktails.
The result is bold yet considered.
A restaurant where the energy of the kitchen becomes part of the experience and where the interior provides a warm, sophisticated setting in which to enjoy it.
Within this atmosphere, the Essex Armchair by Sentta introduces a refined, cosmopolitan presence.
Designed by Javier Gomez, Essex takes inspiration from New York, translating its urban character into a collection defined by confident proportions, generous upholstery and contemporary elegance.
For The Coal Shed, the Essex Armchair is handcrafted in ash wood, finished in brown pewter and upholstered in cotton velvet.
The combination of timber and rich upholstery complements the warmth of the restaurant environment while giving the dining space its own distinctive design character.
In a restaurant built around the intensity of live fire cooking, that balance becomes particularly interesting.
The kitchen brings energy.
The interior creates intimacy.
And the furniture establishes the places where guests can settle into the experience.
The Essex Armchair responds naturally to this relationship. Its upholstered form introduces softness and comfort, while its structured silhouette maintains the refined character expected from contemporary restaurant furniture in Brighton.
This balance between identity and comfort is particularly important in hospitality interiors.
A memorable restaurant is never defined by food alone.
Lighting, materials, furniture, acoustics and spatial planning all contribute to the way guests experience a meal. Together, these elements can transform dining from a functional moment into something more immersive.
Furniture is one of the closest points of contact between the guest and the interior.
The chair is experienced throughout the meal.
Its proportions influence comfort. Its materials contribute to the atmosphere. Its silhouette becomes part of the visual identity of the dining room.
At The Coal Shed, Essex brings these elements together within a design that feels contemporary without losing warmth.
The project was developed in collaboration with PS Interiors International, a provider of European contract furniture for the global market.
With experience across hospitality, residential, marine and airport environments, PS Interiors International delivers tailored furniture solutions for projects with different functional and design requirements.
The wider Essex Collection extends the same design language across a sofa, lounge chair, armchair, counter stool, bar stool and daybed, allowing designers to carry a consistent aesthetic across different areas and seating typologies.
For restaurant and hospitality environments, that flexibility creates opportunities to establish continuity between dining areas, lounges, bars and other social spaces without making every environment feel identical.
At The Coal Shed Brighton, the Essex Armchair becomes part of a restaurant experience shaped around contrast.
The raw energy of coal and fire meets the softness of upholstery.
Seasonal ingredients meet a carefully considered interior.
A distinctly Brighton dining destination meets the cosmopolitan character of a collection inspired by New York.
Fire at the heart of the kitchen. Warmth throughout the interior. Contemporary restaurant design created around the pleasure of staying at the table.
