The Gantry Hotel in London
Contemporary Hospitality in the Energy of East London
In the heart of vibrant Stratford, The Gantry London offers a refined urban retreat surrounded by the music, art, dining and nightlife that define this evolving part of the capital. Located just steps from Westfield and Hackney Wick, and only minutes from Stratford Station, the hotel combines stylish accommodation with a lively social experience, bringing together three restaurants and lounges alongside a rooftop bar with sweeping views from 18 floors above the city. It is a destination shaped not only around staying in London, but around experiencing its energy.
Within this contemporary setting, the Essex Armchair by Sentta introduces a cosmopolitan character that feels naturally at home. Designed by Javier Gomez and inspired by New York, Essex brings together confident proportions, generous upholstery and a distinctly urban design language. Handcrafted in ash wood, finished in brown pewter and upholstered in cotton velvet, the armchair balances structure and softness, adding warmth, texture and comfort to the hotel’s interiors while maintaining the sophisticated character of the surrounding spaces.
The relationship between Essex and The Gantry is particularly fitting. Both are connected to the character of contemporary city life: social, dynamic and influenced by the energy of their surroundings. While the collection looks to New York for inspiration, at The Gantry it finds a new context in East London, where hospitality, culture and nightlife increasingly overlap. This dialogue gives the furniture an international character without disconnecting it from the identity of the destination.
For hotel furniture in London, this balance between personality and versatility is particularly important. Hotels such as The Gantry are no longer defined solely by their guestrooms. Restaurants, lounges, bars and rooftop spaces have become destinations in their own right, welcoming both hotel guests and the wider city. Furniture therefore needs to contribute to the character of each environment while supporting a coherent experience throughout the property. The Essex Armchair responds to this through a design that feels distinctive without becoming overly formal, creating an inviting place to sit while adding a recognisable silhouette to the interior.
The project was completed in partnership with Inside Out Contracts, an award-winning contract furniture supplier working with an international client base since 1999. The company combines carefully selected furniture with extensive contract experience, supporting hospitality projects with solutions adapted to the aesthetic and functional requirements of contemporary interiors.
The wider Essex Collection extends the same cosmopolitan design language across a sofa, lounge chair, armchair, counter stool, bar stool and daybed, allowing designers to establish continuity between different hospitality environments while selecting the appropriate seating typology for each space. At The Gantry, the Essex Armchair becomes part of a hotel experience that reflects the pace and personality of its East London location, bringing together international design influences and the energy of one of the city’s most dynamic neighbourhoods.
East London energy with an international perspective. Contemporary comfort without formality. Urban hospitality designed around staying, dining and experiencing the city.
