Virgin Hotel in Edinburgh
Contemporary Hospitality in the Heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town
Historic Edinburgh meets a distinctly contemporary approach to hospitality.
In the heart of the city’s Old Town, Virgin Hotel Edinburgh invites guests to make themselves at home within a five-star retreat that brings accommodation, dining, drinking and entertainment together under one roof.
From its signature chambers and suites to vibrant bars only steps away, the hotel is designed around an experience that moves easily between different moments.
Guests can settle in. Meet for a drink. Dine. Dance. Or simply retreat from the energy of the city outside.
Within this setting, the Essex Lounge and Bar Chairs by Sentta introduce a cosmopolitan character inspired by New York, complementing the hotel’s contemporary spirit while creating an inviting place to pause.
Designed by Javier Gomez, Essex combines a confident silhouette with generous upholstery and carefully considered proportions.
For this project, the lounge chair is handcrafted in ash wood, finished in brown pewter and upholstered in cotton velvet, creating a rich combination of material, texture and form.
Its New York inspiration brings an urban sensibility to a very different city.
Against the historic character of Edinburgh’s Old Town, that contrast feels particularly relevant.
Rather than attempting to imitate its surroundings, Essex introduces a contemporary layer—one that sits naturally within a hotel experience built around the relationship between heritage, personality and modern hospitality.
This balance is increasingly important when selecting luxury hotel furniture in Edinburgh and other historically significant destinations.
Hotels located within characterful urban settings need to respond to their surroundings while creating an identity of their own.
Furniture can help establish that distinction.
A lounge chair is more than somewhere to sit. Within hospitality interiors, it can define an intimate corner, introduce softness into an architectural space or create a natural place for guests to stop between one experience and the next.
At Virgin Hotel Edinburgh, Essex contributes to that sense of informality and ease.
Its generous form brings comfort into the interior while its distinctive design gives the space visual character.
The project was completed in partnership with Inside Out Contracts, an award-winning contract furniture supplier working with an international client base since 1999.
Through its combination of furniture expertise, product selection and customer service, Inside Out Contracts works across contract environments to deliver furniture solutions suited to the requirements of contemporary hospitality interiors.
The wider Essex Collection extends the same design language across a sofa, lounge chair, armchair, counter stool, bar stool and daybed.
This breadth allows designers to create different seating experiences while maintaining a consistent visual identity across hospitality, residential and other contract environments.
At Virgin Hotel Edinburgh, the Essex Lounge Chair becomes part of a destination where different influences naturally coexist.
Historic surroundings and contemporary interiors.

Edinburgh character and New York-inspired design.
The result is a hotel experience designed not only around where guests stay, but around everything they can do while they are there.
